The Sabazia Section of the International Institute of Ligurian Studies (IISL) and the “Civic Museum of Archaeology and the City of Savona” carry out intensive educational and scientific activities in collaboration with Italian and foreign universities and research institutions, in particular with the chair of Medieval Archaeology at the University of Genoa.
A field in its own right is undergraduate teaching, made possible thanks to agreements between IISL, UNIGE and the Civic Museum; this activity is divided into: annual excavation sites to enable students to advance their professional training directly in the field and earn the necessary CFUs for their university careers; laboratories related to the classification and study of archaeological finds; and elaboration of dissertations, which are now in the order of several dozen for both three-year and specialized degrees and PhDs.
IISL and the Museum are engaged in organizing internships and training seminars for students and graduates and, above all, in research and documentation (and popularization) activities in the field of history and archaeology. Participation in the excavations is reserved for University Students, High School Students affiliated with the Institute of Ligurian Studies and researchers from the Institute itself.
The director in charge of the archaeological excavations is Prof. Carlo Varaldo (University of Genoa and Scientific Director of the International Institute of Ligurian Studies) Those interested in such research may contact, sending their resume, the International Institute of Ligurian Studies, by e-mail info@museoarcheosavona.it , or call 019.2211770
