Home - Tour for blind and visually impaired visitors
A tour of the museum for blind and visually impaired visitors was inaugurated in 2003 in the Civico Museo Archeologico e della Città by Sezione Sabazia dell’Istituto Internazionale di Studi Liguri, thanks to specific founding from Regione Liguria and with the collaboration of Soprintendenza Archeologica della Liguria, Comune di Savona and the Unione Italiana Ciechi. The initiative aims primarily to allow visually impaired people to fully enjoy the museum, with the possibility to read the illustrative captions through Braille texts and to touch several archaeological items. Subsequently the project was expanded with the creation of several touch points along the expositive path, structured on two levels, to allow the visitors to touch several stone artefacts: • a frieze from the Roman imperial era, decorated with hunting scenes • several marble reliefs found in the area of Santa Maria Cathedral dated to VIII-IX century A.D. • a sarcophagus from the funerary monument of Cardinal Agostino Spinola dated to 1522 • several slate serravolte and marble plaques from the surveys in the church of San Domenico il Vecchio. Various archaeological items are available in a showcase allowing visitors to get to know the different ceramic forms produced in Savona during the Middle Ages. Different archaeological fragments, scraps of furnace and vassels will allow the visitors to learn more about the shapes and decorations. Touch points and Braille texts will help blind and visually impaired visitors to explore and understand what it is preserved in the different areas of the Museum.
